Cravats begin in 1977, near Worcestershire, England, a punk-jazz-rockabilly fusion pinned to a bitter rope of black humor with a Dadaist art-collective approach. RR Dallaway, The Shend and Svoor Naan became the foundation of the band, they were joined by David Bennett a year later, and the band was fully formed. They were well received by John Peel and Crass, releasing several singles on Small Wonder Records, who released Bauhaus, Cure, a pre-Alien Sex Fiend/The Dark band Demon Preacher, Patrick Fitzgerald, Menace, as well as some of Crass and Poison Girls releases. They joined Crass Records in 1981. By 1985 they had effectively stopped, though Dead Cravats Laboratory remained a project between Shend and Dallaway, as well as The Very Things and The Babymen. Bennett went on to Poison Girls – he passed away in 2012. In 2009 Cravats have reformed.
