Released January 15, 1988

In the sequel to the 1985 original, which is itself a spoof on Romero and Russo’s 1968 classic, we get a spoof which is even more comedy than its predecessor. Riding the wave of zombie horror with, well, a wave of zombies, the scenario is set for self-aware camp directed by Ken Wiederhorn (Shock Waves); as long as you aren’t expecting Argento or Kubrick level cinema, you won’t be disappointed. So plant your hands into a bucket of brains, I mean… popcorn, and enjoy. The parody is presented immediately with repeated elements from ROTLD, lost barrels of zombies, and even Frank and Freddy (James Karen and Thom Mathews) reprising their roles as inept grave robbers instead of medical warehouse clerks – no Clu Galager unfortunately. But Bobby Briggs (Dana Ashbrook) from Twin Peaks swoops in to save the day. The zombie makeup effects are low grade but not altogether poor. The score is also forgettable, unlike the first film which created a legend in its soundtrack alone. It’s not a movie to impress on any level, but you can consider it the Billy Madison of zombie flicks.
