Location: New York
Active: 1979 – 1981

Formed in 1979 originally as Circus Morticians after Michael Gira parted ways with Alex Gibson in a band called Strict Ids, leaving California for New York (Gibson formed Bpeople). They ultimately settled on Circus Mort. In addition to Gira, the line up included Rick Oller, Angelo Pudignano, and brothers Dan and Josh Braun. Circus Mort only released a single EP in 1981, though several demos exist. After the band split up, Gira and other Circus Mort members would become no-wave noise folk band Swans. The Brauns meanwhile went to the Del-Byzantines with filmmaker Jim Jarmusch.
