Location: London
Active: 1980 – 1983
When Australian punk band The Boys Next Door, consisting of Nick Cave and Rowland S. Howard, moved to London, they officially became The Birthday Party. The lyrics of singer Nick Cave were full of sarcastic and grim humor, with his shocks of wild black hair, and the bands frantic rhythms there was no choice but to align them with the gothic movement that was arising out of the disaffected and more introspective punk movement.
