Detroit, Michigan. Motor City, USA. Nicknamed after being the automotive manufacturing center of the USA during the 20th Century. When more and more goods, cars in particular began to be assembled primarily overseas, the economic impact was devastating. This left the city neglected and impoverished, with a landscape of urban decay that became legendary. Despite, or rather due to this, it was an ideal breeding ground for discontentment in many forms, and relevant to us here is the alternative music scene. Shock Therapy in particular. In the punk rock documentary Another State Of Mind following Social Distortion and Youth Brigade across the USA in 1984, it is one of the stops of their ill fated tour that breaks the spirit of part of the bands and crew.
