DR: Have you run across any artist on tour that you'd like to make mention of?
Kristin: Well, the Le Georges Leningrad was fun! I kind of heard of them in America, but its not the same hype. Here we've seen people wearing their shirts, etc., they are very artistic, and they wind up knowing a lot of the same people anyway like the Centimeters, Quintron etc. They are weird and dancey and fun.
Aaron: Here in Berlin there is Chloe and Martin, and they made this film Speed Madness and Flying Saucers. I really like what they are doing, weird creative stuff.
DR: What are some of the songs that you've been working on?
Aaron: Aphrodite. That one, where did those lyrics come from?
Kristin: We were walking down the street, getting into this march: "Aphrodite Aphrodite swimming through garbage!" Its this glorious person just trapped in all this garbage, not getting to be as glorious as they want to be! And "I sit in front of the knife shop - why? Because I'm sharp!" And then Crystalline and Saturate… I know the plastic surgery thing has been going on and on and on, but recently I had been around someone who was getting it regularly. I was starting to trip out seeing it. 1 in 5 women in San Francisco have had it, its getting really out of control!
DR: What other interests do you have besides the band?
Kristin: He writes a lot, I write a lot. We write books that we try to get published, make up bands with fake names… We both do a lot of visual arts stuff, too. But at this point we don't really have any supplies right now were living in minimal land. It all transcends each other. Writing might wind up becoming lyrics. Drawing and collages might be an inspiration for a song, or artwork in an album.
DR: So Skot B from the Phantom Limbs and now Black Ice is recording this album, did he record the previous stuff as well?
Kristin: He helped record and mix Casio and Fendi, some songs we recorded ourselves and then he would mix. On the first album it was Philip from the Centimetres at his porn internet studio job in Los Angeles, afterhours!
DR: Of course! Typical, that's how these things are done in Los Angeles! So, How is working with Skot?
Aaron: Its been amazing, he's been really great person to collaborate with.
Kristin: He's really patient, he knows what he's doing. He is a great person to work with professionally, because he's so fucking chill. He spends a lot of time on it and he gives us his ideas of the mix.
DR: So on Fendi, the last EP you put out, how did you wind up getting Genesis P Oridge to do the artwork?
Aaron: That was all through the internet. I got an email from Greg Gomberg. He just sent it over to me!
Kristin: We kindof gave him an idea.
Aaron: Its so sarcastic, I really like it.
Kristin: Its pretty sassy! And one other thing I found out about it that I didn't know is, and it makes sense, that in Italian, 'Fendi' is, in this context, being a fencer! Its some kind of "sassy defense"! [Laughter]. And also, its a brand of these really expensive shoes!
Aaron: We want to be sponsored by Fendi. Fendi and Casio!
Kristin: And Marshal.
Aaron: Marshalls? And Ross! Dress for less!
DR: What label are you going with on this one?
Kristin: We have faith in this new one, Hungry Eye. Its new, really motivated and he really understands where we're coming from. He's starting to get a good grip on distribution. I like that is new. We've met him and his girlfriend a lot, and we're good friends.
DR: Well my last question is: What's Next?
Aaron: More of everything; Less of everything!
Kristin: We both want to see this album come out and see if we can take it further and get some more support, so we can travel more, make more music, not die…
Ok, lets go to the bar!
